United Industries pioneered the welding of ferretic stainless steel for the automotive industry in the early 1980’s, and is still the leading producer for critical tubing in catalytic converters and tubular exhaust components.

United Industries produces both ferritic (type 409, 439, etc.) and austenitic (type 304, 321, etc.) grade stainless steel tubing for the automotive industry. Production of the wide variety of stainless alloys available is performed by both laser and TIG (Tungsten Inert Gas) welding capabilities. United Industries’ years of experience in this industry have provided our customers with the highest quality tubing required for severe fabrication such as: tubular manifolds, crossover and downpipes, spun catalytic converters, muffler / resonator components and tailpipes.

As a certified QS9000 supplier with proven engineering capabilities and using extensive statistical methods, United offers development assistance and manufacturing expertise for the welding of Stainless Steel tubing for both ferritic and austenitic ranges for very critical applications.

Manufacturing

All tubing is produced in a true inline / work cell environment that minimizes work in process common in batch type manufacturing. Raw material is purchased in wide coils and slit to specific tube widths at our facility. The tube production begins with roll forming, then welding, weld bead conditioning, inline annealing (when specified), final sizing, OD stencil (if required), cut to length, deburring, polishing (when specified) and packaging for shipment.

Polishing

Inline polishing is available ranging from 180 grit satin type to the high luster super buff finish. All tubing is paper protected to ensure the ultimate surface condition during shipment and customer handling. Polished tubing has become more and more popular for visible exhaust components such as tailpipes and muffler outlet stubs.

Quality Testing

All tubing is continuously tested to ASTM and customer fabrication requirements by the operator of each work cell. Tubing is 100% eddy current tested and destructive tests are performed at regular intervals. Incoming raw material is inspected and must conform to our rigid standards set for all our suppliers and final dock audits are made to ensure quality.

Product Delivery

Because of United Industries’ JIT manufacturing capabilities, shipment to - or pickup by - our customers requirements are made daily, weekly or however specified. This greatly reduces our customer’s inventory, increases inventory turns and reduces costs. A wide variety of transportation alternatives are available.
